Sizing, install, commissioning

AC Installation & Replacement

Load-calculated sizing, a proper install and a commissioning report. Two identical systems in two identical houses perform completely differently depending on this part.

An outdoor condenser unit beside a house

The equipment matters less than the person putting it in.

Most of the difference between a system that lasts eighteen years and one that limps to twelve has nothing to do with the badge on the side. It is sizing, line set, charge, airflow and whether anyone bothered to commission it.

We run a load calculation on your actual house rather than replacing whatever tonnage happens to be sitting there. Oversized equipment is the single most common installation error in this trade, and it makes a house clammy, noisy and expensive.

What a replacement includes
  • A room-by-room load calculation, not a guess from the old nameplate
  • Options quoted side by side, with the trade-offs written down
  • New line set or a flushed and pressure-tested existing one
  • Correct refrigerant charge, weighed in and verified by subcooling
  • Airflow set to the equipment spec, measured not assumed
  • New pad, disconnect, whip and drain assembly as required
  • Permit, inspection, haul-away and manufacturer registration
  • A commissioning sheet with the final numbers, left with you

Why installs go wrong

These are the four failures we see most often when we are called to fix somebody else’s new system.

01

Oversizing

A system too large for the house cools fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out. The house reads 72 and feels like a basement. It also wears the compressor out early.

02

Airflow nobody measured

New equipment on old undersized ducts will underperform forever. If the ductwork cannot carry the air, we tell you before you buy the system, not after.

03

Charge by feel

Refrigerant charged "until it feels about right" is the reason a lot of new systems run 15% below their rating. It is weighed and verified here.

04

No commissioning

If nobody wrote down the final readings, nobody knows whether it was installed correctly — including the next technician who has to work on it.

How this is priced

  • In writing before anything starts
  • Readings left with you, on paper
  • Nobody paid a percentage of the invoice

Quoted as one number after an in-home visit: equipment, materials, labour, permit, inspection, haul-away and registration. Two or three options priced side by side so you can see what the extra money actually buys. No pressure to decide on the day, and the quote holds for thirty days.

Answers before you have to call and ask

A straight replacement is usually one day. Add a day if the ductwork needs modification, the line set has to be replaced, or the electrical needs bringing up to code. You will know which of those apply before we start, because we will have looked.

Not always, but the indoor coil and the outdoor unit are a matched pair and mixing generations gives up efficiency and complicates warranty claims. If your furnace is young and healthy we will say so and quote the outdoor unit and coil only.

No, and this is the most expensive misconception in residential HVAC. Correct size beats large every time — for comfort, humidity, noise, running cost and equipment life.

Emergency service

No cooling. No heat. No answer anywhere else.

The after-hours line rings a dispatcher who can see where every van is, not a message service.
