Heating calls carry a safety dimension that cooling calls do not. A furnace has a burner, a heat exchanger and a flue, and all three need to be right — not just working.
Every heating repair here includes a combustion and heat exchanger check, whether or not it is related to the fault you called about. If we find something that should not be running, we will tell you and we will explain exactly why.
- Gas furnaces that will not light, or light and shut down
- Ignitors, flame sensors, pressure switches and inducer motors
- Heat pumps stuck in defrost or running auxiliary heat constantly
- Electric strip heat that has failed or is running when it should not
- Blower motors, control boards and limit switches
- Cracked or suspect heat exchangers
- Thermostats miswired after somebody else was here
The safety part, plainly
We are not going to be dramatic about this, but we are also not going to skip it.
Every heating call includes a combustion check
Flue draft, burner flame, and a heat exchanger inspection. It takes a few extra minutes and it is not an add-on line item.
A red tag is a last resort, not a sales tool
Condemning a furnace is the oldest upsell in this trade. If we shut a system down we will show you exactly what we found, and we will put it in writing so you can get a second opinion.
Temporary heat matters
If your system has to stay off overnight in January we will tell you how to keep the house safe and, where we have them, lend you space heaters.
Carbon monoxide
We test for it on every heating call. If you do not have a CO alarm on each floor, we will say so — that is a $30 fix that has nothing to do with hiring us.

Flat diagnostic fee, credited against a same-day repair. Repairs quoted flat rate before we start. The combustion and heat exchanger check is included on every heating call and is not billed separately.
Answers before you have to call and ask
Usually a flame sensor, an ignitor, or a pressure switch responding to a blocked flue or a full condensate trap. All are common and none of them are expensive. It is worth calling rather than resetting it repeatedly — the lockout is the system protecting itself.
Heat pumps deliver air cooler than a furnace does — around 90°F rather than 130°F — so it can feel wrong even when it is working correctly. It is also normal for the outdoor unit to steam during a defrost cycle. If the house is not holding temperature, that is a different matter and worth a call.
Yes. Most of our heating calls are on equipment somebody else put in, and we do not charge more for it or use it as a reason to push a replacement.
