Smart, zoned, wired correctly

Thermostats & Controls

Smart thermostats, zoning and the wiring behind them. Installed so every stage your equipment has actually gets used.

A hand adjusting a wall thermostat

The part of the system you actually touch.

A thermostat is the only part of a heating and cooling system most people ever interact with, and it is also the part most often installed wrong — usually because whoever fitted it did not run the extra wire.

A two-stage furnace controlled by a single-stage thermostat runs at full blast forever and you paid for a second stage you have never used. We check what your equipment can do before we recommend a control for it.

What we do
  • Smart thermostat supply and installation, or install one you bought
  • Running the common wire properly rather than using a power stealer
  • Multi-stage and dual-fuel configuration so every stage gets used
  • Zoning with dampers for houses with a stubborn floor or wing
  • Remote sensors so the thermostat reads the room you sleep in
  • Setting up schedules with you, once, so it never gets fought with
  • Diagnosing controls somebody else wired incorrectly

Details that decide whether it works

Four things separate a thermostat that helps from one that annoys everyone in the house.

01

A real common wire

Adapters and power-stealing cause intermittent faults that are miserable to chase later. If your system needs a C wire pulled, we pull it.

02

Configured to the equipment

Stages, dual-fuel changeover temperature, heat pump lockouts, fan settings. Out of the box, none of that is right for your system.

03

Placed where it can read the house

A thermostat on a wall that gets afternoon sun will lie to you all summer. Remote sensors fix what relocation cannot.

04

Set up with you, not for you

We sit down and build the schedule with whoever runs the house, on their phone, before we leave.

How this is priced

  • In writing before anything starts
  • Readings left with you, on paper
  • Nobody paid a percentage of the invoice

Flat rate per thermostat including configuration and setup. If a common wire has to be run, that is quoted before we start rather than discovered afterwards. Zoning is quoted per the house after we look at the duct layout.

Answers before you have to call and ask

Yes, and plenty of people do. We will check it supports your equipment’s staging before we take the old one off the wall — a useful ten minutes that occasionally saves a wasted afternoon.

Modestly, and mostly through scheduling rather than magic. The bigger wins in this house are usually airflow and equipment sizing. We would rather tell you that than sell you a control and let you find out.

A remote sensor in that room helps. A real fix is usually zoning or airflow work. We will price the sensor first because it is a fraction of the cost and sometimes it is enough.

No cooling. No heat. No answer anywhere else.

The after-hours line rings a dispatcher who can see where every van is, not a message service.
